On October 30, 1998 Jimmy paid a non-concert visit to us here in Charleston, SC! He was touring his new shop here, the first time since it opened. He did a fairly lengthy interview for the local paper, The Post & Courier, which should appear soon - which you can read here. He also did an interview with the local NBC affiliate, Channel 2. After all the interviews, he talked to the local parrot heads and asked their opinions of the store. I was able to distract him by asking him to sign two albums I had brought with me - the two he did with the Now Generation. When he saw them he stopped dead in his tracks in disbelief. He said he hadn't seen them in over 30 years, showed them to Sunshine Smith who had never seen them, and questioned me extensively about where I got them. He also listed off some of the other people on the albums and told me which songs he sang on. I was pretty excited so I have forgotten what he said, but I will try to recall. He signed both albums for me with nice inscriptions, and then signed the books I had brought. All around, he was very nice and receptive to the people who were there - only 50 to 75, tops. If you have any questions let me know, but it was great! A picture of Jimmy signing my albums accompanied the Post & Courier article. You can see the picture here. I am on the far left side - the large guy with glass and gray shirt looking away from the camera. Click here for one of Jimmy signing my albums. Or, click here for one of him signing books for my wife, Nancy.
Two Prizes in My Collection! Rumored but very hard to find, I finally got copies of the albums cut by the "Now Generation." These are from Jimmy's Nashville days. I have scanned in the picture parts of the covers. The first is called Come Together. The second is called Hits are Our Business. Click on the titles to see the covers.

A Bit of History I have been a fan of Jimmy Buffett for nearly 30 years now. I went to my first concert sometime around 1980. (If someone can tell me the year of the "Hot Dog and a Road Map" tour, I would be much obliged.) That first concert was in a small auditorium that did not sell out. During the concert however, a young lady who had drunk or smoked a little too much fell into my lap. Although we didn't get acquainted and I never saw her again, I was entirely sold on the Buffett concert experience -- along with is music of course. In 1997, I got on TV and a local newspaper because of my Parrot Head exploits. Click here to check out the newspaper article. 1997 was also the year I helped form the Lowcountry Parrot Head Club. And although I am not really an officer anymore, due to time constraints, I am involved as much as possible and recommend the club as a great way to have fun while making a difference. For the record, here are the Buffett concerts
I have attended so far: Anyway, this page is devoted to parrot head experiences and dreams of that way of life. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. If you have any comments or additions, please let me know! Michael Carnell - carnellm@palmettobug.com
